DESCRIPTION:Nature Drawing \nJuly 3 – August 14 \, 2024  (seven weeks) \nWednesdays  9:30-12:00 \nStudio 1 \n Nature drawing has a way of bringing your body and soul in synch with nature and helps you stay in the calm and quiet of the moment. Drawing helps you concentrate your mind and gives you an understating of the visual world like no other art. Drawing is the kind of art practice that you can bring into your home\, on vacation\, outdoors with friends\, anywhere you wish with just a small sketchbook and some pencils. \nThis course teaches the fundamentals of drawing in a detailed and methodical way over several weeks with a lot practice and attention from the instructor. You will learn about form\, shading\, line weight\, and composition and make lively\, interesting and beautiful drawings. A wide range of materials and mediums are introduced slowly as part of the class in demos. \nIn this class you learn and work in a cohesive environment where you get to see and appreciate a variety of art and inspire each other. You draw as beginners\, intermediate students\, and more experienced students all in one class\, each group working on material appropriate to their group. \nBeginners learn the basics of form\, line and value/shading and learn to draw branches\, leaves\, small flowers\, fruits or vegetable\, and an animal\, bird or insect. At the end of class you’ll have at least one drawing with three or four components in it. \nIntermediate students draw more complex scenery or a still life with natural elements in it\, and learn to use color (optional) with colored pencils\, pastels\, or watercolor. This group produces several drawings\, some in color and some in graphite or charcoal pencil. \nMore advanced students work with scale\, perspective\, tonal variation and more detail and color and scale. \n  \nWe will use pencils\, charcoal\, colored pencils\, pens\, or pastels and to lesser extent watercolor ( always combined with pencils or pens). Great emphasis is on drawing real specimens and not necessarily working fro photos. A variety of color mediums including acrylics\, oils\, or water soluble\noil colors can be used on paper as well as on canvas or board. Studio 2 \nJuly 26 to August 23\, 2024 \n5 classes  $100 Members__ $120 Non-members \nAcrylic paints are amazing!  Learn about the paint and mediums that are essential to a rich and deep acrylic painting. \nAcrylics are wonderful and flexible. It washes up with water\, but when it dries\, it is a water proof polymer\, so wear “painting clothes”. \nBeginners: This five-week session of Marcy Wheeler’s Friday Morning Class is focused on showing beginners how to mix colors and play with acrylic paints. The beginners will work in the heart of the class together and will be greeted with fun projects to teach them the ins and outs of color and acrylic paints. \nBeginner’s Material Fee is $50. Paid by check or cash to Marcy Wheeler on 1st class meeting. You get to keep the wonderful Golden Paints (5 tubes) and several new and used brushes. Bring some canvas or heavy paper to paint on\, and a palette. \nOngoing Students continue on their road as “not quite” beginners\, intermediate\, and advanced painters\, and will be cheering beginners on! Learning continues with individual guidance from Marcy\, as usual. We often share our work at the end of the class and learn more about our own work from the other class members. Students learn the quick and creative qualities of acrylic paints and mediums and how to turn acrylic paints into a flexible and luscious way to paint. \nAcrylic paints are amazing!  Learn about the mediums that are essential to a rich and deep acrylic painting. \nWheeler encourages students to try new tools\, explore new ways of working and move toward their own style. She gives the encouragement needed to stay with a painting until it exceeds the student’s highest expectations. And she helps some students learn how to stop when it is finished! \nTuition is $100 for five classes for RAA members\, for non-members\, tuition is $120. \nIn addition to teaching at Rossmoor\, Wheeler has taught at Lafayette Studio\, Walnut Creek Civic Arts\, Yosemite Art Center and for more than 24 years at her own studio. It washes up with water\, but when it dries\, it is a water proof polymer\, so wear “painting clothes”. \nBeginners: This five-week session of Marcy Wheeler’s Friday Morning Class is focused on showing beginners how to mix colors and play with acrylic paints. The beginners will work in the heart of the class together and will be greeted with fun projects to teach them the ins and outs of color and acrylic paints. \nBeginner’s Material Fee is $50. Paid by check or cash to Marcy Wheeler on 1st class meeting. You get to keep the wonderful Golden Paints (5 tubes) and several new and used brushes. Bring some canvas or heavy paper to paint on\, and a palette. \nOngoing Students continue on their road as “not quite” beginners\, intermediate\, and advanced painters\, and will be cheering beginners on! DESCRIPTION:Nature Drawing \nJuly 3 – August 14 \, 2024  (seven weeks) \nWednesdays  9:30-12:00 \nStudio 1 \n Nature drawing has a way of bringing your body and soul in synch with nature and helps you stay in the calm and quiet of the moment. Drawing helps you concentrate your mind and gives you an understating of the visual world like no other art. Drawing is the kind of art practice that you can bring into your home\, on vacation\, outdoors with friends\, anywhere you wish with just a small sketchbook and some pencils. \nThis course teaches the fundamentals of drawing in a detailed and methodical way over several weeks with a lot practice and attention from the instructor. You will learn about form\, shading\, line weight\, and composition and make lively\, interesting and beautiful drawings. A wide range of materials and mediums are introduced slowly as part of the class in demos. \nIn this class you learn and work in a cohesive environment where you get to see and appreciate a variety of art and inspire each other. You draw as beginners\, intermediate students\, and more experienced students all in one class\, each group working on material appropriate to their group. \nBeginners learn the basics of form\, line and value/shading and learn to draw branches\, leaves\, small flowers\, fruits or vegetable\, and an animal\, bird or insect. At the end of class you’ll have at least one drawing with three or four components in it. \nIntermediate students draw more complex scenery or a still life with natural elements in it\, and learn to use color (optional) with colored pencils\, pastels\, or watercolor. This group produces several drawings\, some in color and some in graphite or charcoal pencil. \nMore advanced students work with scale\, perspective\, tonal variation and more detail and color and scale. \n  \nWe will use pencils\, charcoal\, colored pencils\, pens\, or pastels and to lesser extent watercolor ( always combined with pencils or pens). Great emphasis is on drawing real specimens and not necessarily working fro photos. DESCRIPTION:Nature Drawing \nJuly 3 – August 14 \, 2024  (seven weeks) \nWednesdays  9:30-12:00 \nStudio 1 \n Nature drawing has a way of bringing your body and soul in synch with nature and helps you stay in the calm and quiet of the moment. Drawing helps you concentrate your mind and gives you an understating of the visual world like no other art. Drawing is the kind of art practice that you can bring into your home\, on vacation\, outdoors with friends\, anywhere you wish with just a small sketchbook and some pencils. \nThis course teaches the fundamentals of drawing in a detailed and methodical way over several weeks with a lot practice and attention from the instructor. You will learn about form\, shading\, line weight\, and composition and make lively\, interesting and beautiful drawings. A wide range of materials and mediums are introduced slowly as part of the class in demos. \nIn this class you learn and work in a cohesive environment where you get to see and appreciate a variety of art and inspire each other. You draw as beginners\, intermediate students\, and more experienced students all in one class\, each group working on material appropriate to their group. \nBeginners learn the basics of form\, line and value/shading and learn to draw branches\, leaves\, small flowers\, fruits or vegetable\, and an animal\, bird or insect. At the end of class you’ll have at least one drawing with three or four components in it. \nIntermediate students draw more complex scenery or a still life with natural elements in it\, and learn to use color (optional) with colored pencils\, pastels\, or watercolor. This group produces several drawings\, some in color and some in graphite or charcoal pencil. \nMore advanced students work with scale\, perspective\, tonal variation and more detail and color and scale. \n  \nWe will use pencils\, charcoal\, colored pencils\, pens\, or pastels and to lesser extent watercolor ( always combined with pencils or pens). Great emphasis is on drawing real specimens and not necessarily working fro photos. DESCRIPTION:Beginning with Color and Acrylics and Onward with Marcy Wheeler \nFridays 9:30-Noon. Studio 2 \nJune 21 to July 19\, 2024 \n5 classes  $100 Members__ $120 Non-members \nAcrylic paints are amazing!  Learn about the paint and mediums that are essential to a rich and deep acrylic painting. \nAcrylics are wonderful and flexible. It washes up with water\, but when it dries\, it is a water proof polymer\, so wear “painting clothes”. \nBeginners: This six-week session of Marcy Wheeler’s Friday Morning Class is focused on showing beginners how to mix colors and play with acrylic paints. The beginners will work in the heart of the class together and will be greeted with fun projects to teach them the ins and outs of color and acrylic paints. Beginner’s Material Fee is $50. Paid by check or cash to Marcy Wheeler on 1st class meeting. You get to keep the wonderful Golden Paints (5 tubes) and several new and used brushes. Bring some canvas or heavy paper to paint on\, and a palette. \nOngoing Students continue on their road as “not quite” beginners\, intermediate\, and advanced painters\, and will be cheering beginners on! Learning continues with individual guidance from Marcy\, as usual. We often share our work at the end of the class and learn more about our own work from the other class members. Students learn the quick and creative qualities of acrylic paints and mediums and how to turn acrylic paints into a flexible and luscious way to paint. \nAcrylic paints are amazing!  Learn about the mediums that are essential to a rich and deep acrylic painting. \nWheeler encourages students to try new tools\, explore new ways of working and move toward their own style. She gives the encouragement needed to stay with a painting until it exceeds the student’s highest expectations. And she helps some students learn how to stop when it is finished! \nTuition is $100 for four classes for RAA members\, for non-members\, tuition is $120. \nIn addition to teaching at Rossmoor\, Wheeler has taught at Lafayette Studio\, Walnut Creek Civic Arts\, Yosemite Art Center and for more than 24 years at her own studio. Using simple shapes and techniques to learn how the brush loads and carries water and pigments\, we’ll be feeling the difference of “less is more” and “less is enough”. Students will be able to complete a number of studies and paintings in this eight-week series. \n  \nYears ago I did a thesis on watercolor. I then I traveled for a year outside the US. The images I brought home were watercolor only\, no camera at all. This was my medium for decades. Recently my watercolor work has been on silk as well as cold-pressed Arches paper. I may include a silk demo to introduce the silk superflow if students have an interest. \n  \nYes\, watercolor painting can be simple\, fun\, and elegant. DESCRIPTION:Beginning with Color and Acrylics and Onward with Marcy Wheeler \nFridays 9:30-Noon. Studio 2 \nJune 21 to July 19\, 2024 \n5 classes  $100 Members__ $120 Non-members \nAcrylic paints are amazing!  Learn about the paint and mediums that are essential to a rich and deep acrylic painting. \nAcrylics are wonderful and flexible. It washes up with water\, but when it dries\, it is a water proof polymer\, so wear “painting clothes”. \nBeginners: This six-week session of Marcy Wheeler’s Friday Morning Class is focused on showing beginners how to mix colors and play with acrylic paints. The beginners will work in the heart of the class together and will be greeted with fun projects to teach them the ins and outs of color and acrylic paints. Beginner’s Material Fee is $50. Paid by check or cash to Marcy Wheeler on 1st class meeting. You get to keep the wonderful Golden Paints (5 tubes) and several new and used brushes. Bring some canvas or heavy paper to paint on\, and a palette. \nOngoing Students continue on their road as “not quite” beginners\, intermediate\, and advanced painters\, and will be cheering beginners on! Learning continues with individual guidance from Marcy\, as usual. We often share our work at the end of the class and learn more about our own work from the other class members. If you are an ongoing student\, you are in charge of your own material purchases. \nAny Student may make up a missed class in Marcy’s Thursday afternoon class (2:30- 5) in Studio 2.  A student may also make up a class at her private studio on Boulevard Way\, Thursday mornings 9:30 to 12\, with advance notice.
