SUMMARY:Beginning/Intermediate Watercolor Painting with Ron Pratt _ Thursdays_ 9:00-11:30 _Sept 24th - Dec 3rd (no class on Nov 26th) Studio 1
DESCRIPTION:Beginning/Intermediate \nWatercolor Painting \nFall 2026 \nRonald Pratt \n  \nGateway\, Painting Studio 1 \n  \nThe wonderful color palette nature offers us is one of the many reasons the fall is an inspiring time to paint.  Another reason is that it is the end of summer where the long\, hot days are slowing down and making way for the cooler\, shorter days of winter.  It is a calm between the seasons that allows us to sit back and reflect on life.  With that reflection comes the desire to be creative\, that desire to paint!  It is one of the most creative times for me. \n  \nIf you love painting in the fall season like I do why not come and join like-minded artists on Thursday Mornings for some fun painting in a relaxing social atmosphere.  The step by step demonstrations will show you how to bring out wonderful colors in your watercolor paintings and to capture that magical feel of the change of seasons known as autumn.   Subject matter will include autumn aspens\, a holiday greeting card project\, a still life and an abstract composition. \n  \nThe Rossmoor Art Association is offering this watercolor painting class this fall at the Rossmoor Activities Center\, Painting Studio 1 on Thursday Mornings from 9 am to 11:30 am.  This 10 week class will run from Sept 24th to Dec 3rd (no class on Nov 26th – Thanksgiving Day) at a cost of $170.  For Non-Rossmoor Residents the class fee is $190.  Priority will be given to Rossmoor Residents.  Suggested materials for students new to watercolor painting will be discussed at the first class. \n  \nTo register go to the Rossmoor Art Association Website (www.rossmoorart.comm) and click on classes on the header bar.  Scroll down until you come to Beginning/Intermediate Watercolor Painting with Ron Pratt and follow the instructions to enroll.  The class maximum is 20 students due to space limitations so get your registration in to reserve your seat in class. \n  \nTo see Ronald’s Watercolors go to www.ronaldpratt.com.  Please direct questions to Ronald at ronpratt14@gmail.com or call him at (510) 366-7740.  Further information on all RAA activities can be found at www.rossmoorart.com.

SUMMARY:Landscapes from Photographs_ Carol Tarzier _ Fridays 12:30 - 4:30 pm_ Nov 13th - Dec 18th (5 sessions) _ Studio 1
DESCRIPTION:Landscapes from Photographs      \nBay Area artist Carol Tarzier is offering “Landscape from Photographs.”  Class meets on Fridays November 13th – December 18th\, from 12:30 – 4:30 pm in Studio One.  Tuition for the five sessions is $110. for members\, $130 for non residents and residents who are not members. Please join!  Every other class features a demonstration and group discussion; the last class includes a final critique.\n \n“Landscape from Photographs” is about using photographs to create fresh and lively landscapes with the energy and color of Plein Air work.  The series covers color mixing using a limited palette of three primary colors.   The class begins with materials and equipment that make painting fun\, and with designing the value structure in monochrome.   It moves to atmospheric perspective – creating depth using soft edges\, mixed muted tones\, and soft grays.   Students will use saturation to create space\, with bright colors in the foreground.   \n           \nThe class moves on to colors for specific effects: color changes in the sky as it moves toward the horizon\, color changes on a flat plane to make it recede into the distance\, and which colors create a dynamic foreground.  Time permitting\, the class will cover transparency:  how to make water look transparent\, how to paint waves\, and painting reflections.   \n \nStudents bring their landscape photos to each class\, on a tablet or printed photos.  Oil and acrylic painters of all levels welcome. Class demonstrations are in oil.  Acrylic instruction is individual.  The class emphasizes using non-toxic mediums\, and oil painters please use odorless thinner only.\n   \n           \nFor questions\, email carol@tarzier.com.   View examples of Tarzier’s work at www.tarzier.com or https://www.facebook.com/CarolTarzierFineArt.\n \n. \n— \nCarol Tarzier\nTarzier Studio

SUMMARY:Drawing Nature with Afsaneh Michaels_ November 4th- Dec 16th _ Wednesdays  _9:30-12:30 pm Studio 1
DESCRIPTION:Drawing Nature\, Landscapes\, Still Life\, Botanical\nNovember 4- Dec 16\, 2026 \nWednesdays  9:30-12:30 pm\nStudio 1\n The drawing course aims to empower students by building a solid foundation in observation\, technique\, and fundamental artistic concepts through methodical practice and individualized instruction.\nIn a supportive\, non-judgmental environment\, Afsaneh Michaels introduces a variety of materials and mediums through hands-on demonstrations. Designed for all skill levels—from beginner to experienced—the class fosters a collaborative environment that encourages shared inspiration and artistic growth across all participants.\n\nAll drawing students learn the elements of art and principles of design introduced as foundational vocabulary. These are:  line\, shape\, value (understanding of light)\, form (representation of the three dimension)\, texture\, space\, composition\, and proportion\, and learn to draw using a still life composition.\n\nBeginners Will have one or two completed drawings with three or four components. Great emphasis is put upon learning the foundational skills and principles of drawing and design. Teacher chooses all the subject matter.\nBeginners come to the first class half an hour early to meet and greet and to receive the beginner materials. \n\nIntermediate students produce more complex drawings of natural materials or scenery or a still life\, perhaps work on a series and learn to use color (optional) with colored pencils\, pastels\, or watercolor mixed with drawing. This group produces several drawings\, some in color and some in graphite or charcoal pencil.\n\nMore advanced students work with scale\, tonal variation and more detail and color and possibly work on a self generated project\, ie. A garden of their choice or other subjects.\n\nWe will use pencils\, charcoal\, colored pencils\, pens\, but a lesser extent watercolor ( always combined with pencils or pens). Great emphasis is on drawing real objects or specimens and not necessarily working from photos. Small things are brought into the studio or from your home as models.\n  \nPlease come with your materials or at least a sketchbook and some pencils to the first class and learn about materials then. \n  \nInstructor: Afsaneh Michaels  AfsanehAm@gmail.com \nNovember 4- Dec 16\, 2026 \nWednesdays  9:30-12:30 pm \nStudio 1 \nClass Fee: $210.00 Members.   $230.00 Non-members \nNumber of students: 18 \nMaterials: Sketchbook: 1) 93-120 Ibs. weight of your choice. 2) Pencils: 6B\, 5B\, 4B\, 3B\, 2B\, B\, F\, H\, 2H\, 4H. 3) Set of charcoal pencils.  4) Pink/white eraser.  5) kneaded rubber eraser. 6) Pencil sharpener. 7) Gray scale. \n8) Blending stumps.  9) Small ruler\, 10) Set of colored pencils if you choose color (Prismacolor is ideal but other brands work too).
