DESCRIPTION:Intermediate/Advanced Watercolor Painting with Ronald Pratt Summer 2023 \nRossmoor Activities Center\, Painting Studio 1 \nThe summer time is always my favorite time to paint. Long\, warm days provide plenty of daylight hours to work in my studio between hikes in the foothills\, working in the garden and excursions to the coast. These activities always awaken my artistic muse and inspire me to paint. Creativity just seems to flow in abundance during the summer months. \nIf you are the type of person who feels the excitement and joy of creating in the warm months of summer\, the Rossmoor Art Association is offering a class on Thursday Afternoons designed for you. This class focuses on teaching people the fundamentals of design and composition in watercolor painting and encourages people to explore their own creativity. This is a fun class that encourages the freedom of expression while developing your design skills in a fun and relaxing environment. Subject matter will be at the discretion of the students based on class themes. \nThis watercolor painting class will be held at the Rossmoor Activities Center\, Painting Studio 1 on Thursday Afternoons from 12:30pm to 3:00pm. This 10 week class will run from July 13th to Sept 14th at a cost of $135. For Non-Rossmoor Residents the class fee is $155. Priority will be given to Rossmoor Residents. Brings your art supplies and a subject you wish to paint to the first class. \nTo register go to the Rossmoor Art Association Website and click on classes on the header bar. Scroll down until you come to Intermediate/Advanced Watercolor Painting with Ron Pratt and enroll. Remember this class is for those that are self- motivated with some background in the medium. We’ll follow simple principles of composition to make each move with confidence. Simply play. You are bringing with you the finest ingredient–your imagination. We’ll no doubt have fun. \n“Paints & Papers”  allows students to complete several pieces. No experience necessary. Guided projects at the outset involve working on paper\, boards or canvas and selecting from an assortment of ingredients. Members may utilize their own materials\, or if preferred\, use materials provided by the instructor. \nCollect interesting papers\, pages and found materials which resonate\, and the odd tool to work them\, as I offer you techniques which complement you intention and style. DESCRIPTION:Studio 2\nMulti-Media Figure Lab\nThe Figure Lab needs to be on hold for the next several weeks\, due to the scarcity of both models and available space during the remodel. \nWe will open up the registration and the class again as soon as possible! \n  \nTuesdays 1-4 pm\n\nThere may be disruptions of classes in the next few months at Rossmoor due to the remodel of the studios. We hope to be able to make up for any cancelled class days or provide an alternate location. We will try our best to keep you informed.\n\nThe Multi-Media Figure Lab is an uninstructed workshop with a costumed model for Portrait or Figure work\, every Tuesday 1-4 pm. Students work independently from the model\, with an optional group discussion about the work at the end of each session.  Models are hired through the Bay Area Models Guild and the workshop charge covers the model fee.  A monitor will set up the lighting and pose each session.  Sessions feature one long pose\, with possible twenty minutes of gestures to start each session.  All media – watercolor\, acrylic\, charcoal\, pastels\, and oil paint – are welcome. No volatile thinners\, please.  The workshop takes place in Studio Two.\n\nThe Figure Lab Workshop discount fee is $100 for 5 sessions ($120. for Guests).   If you use up your 5 classes and time allows in the session\, you may purchase another five from the Monitor. Also available: Drop-in fee is $25.\, write your check to RAA and give to the class monitor.\n

We will try our best to keep you informed.\n\nThe Multi-Media Figure Lab is an uninstructed workshop with a costumed model for Portrait or Figure work\, every Tuesday 1-4 pm. Students work independently from the model\, with an optional group discussion about the work at the end of each session.  Models are hired through the Bay Area Models Guild and the workshop charge covers the model fee.  A monitor will set up the lighting and pose each session.  Sessions feature one long pose\, with possible twenty minutes of gestures to start each session.  All media – watercolor\, acrylic\, charcoal\, pastels\, and oil paint – are welcome. No volatile thinners\, please.  The workshop takes place in Studio Two.\n\nThe Figure Lab Workshop discount fee is $100 for 5 sessions ($120. for Guests).   If you use up your 5 classes and time allows in the session\, you may purchase another five from the Monitor. DESCRIPTION:Painting Momentum \nEight weeks starting May 30 – July 18 \nTuesdays  1-4pm     Studio 1 \n$180 residents $200 non-members \n  \n“Painting Momentum” \nSurround yourself with ideas\, ambient light\, and your painting tools! Whether you’re a beginner or hold an MFA\, we take a fresh look together at fundamentals. My style is to offer you constant support at your easels\, where you are painting what you love. \nAre you a brand-new artist? Are you embarking on a new painting or revisiting a piece? Whether abstract or representational\, work your individual style in oils or acrylics. Try fresh ideas. Skirt common pitfalls in this convivial class. \nI intend to help you develop a path with good sequencing in the painting process. I like to simplify new and age-old painting concepts with short demonstrations and handouts and a bit of levity. Typically I offer information on form\, light\, composition\, values\, atmospheric perspective\, color mixing\, media\, etc. I am happy to oblige when painters request a special focus or demo. \nConnect the dots of composition\, color partnering\, and technique that fit your style. Paint using sources you choose\, preferably photographic\, and benefit from sharing your process with others. We all help each other. \nHaving been a full-time artist for decades with a history of successful custom paintings for clients\, I enjoy sharing what I love. Being a fine arts instructor for more than eleven years right here\, I feel proud of my students’ growth. Our Tuesday studio is a warm place—we have fun and we uplift each other. All celebrate in the final class with a group showing of finished work and pieces in progress. \nI’ve exhibited in the U.S. and Italy\, galleries\, museum shows\, etc. I show both abstract and representational art\, and I paint on silk. DESCRIPTION:Escapades in Collage with Gelli Plate Prints  \nGet ready for twists and turns in artist\, Anna George’s mixed media collage workshop\, meeting Friday afternoons in Studio Two on March 31\, April 7\, and April 14th. \nBegin your adventure making art paper and fine art collage pieces using acrylic paints provided by artist\, Anna George. The sky is the limit in this series of three sessions. Enjoy demonstrations each session. No experience is necessary. \nWe begin with a fun look at elements that constitute a print\, a collage\, and mixed media. The class will focus on paint-to-paper monoprints\, using techniques like negative imaging where light and dark are reversed\, multiple passes\, sectioning\, and color combining that will allow for playful experiment and gorgeous results. \nA “Gelli” plate is a rectangle about a half inch thick with springy resilience akin to firm gelatin. It has the ability to retain on its smooth surface acrylic color we apply in layers. The colors then  release in various ways. The results are delightful and can be unpredictable in welcome ways. \nLearn to arrange and integrate color and texture to achieve richness in a range of results from spare and simple to multi-layered. We will explore as we wish–abstract\, representational\, and all that’s in between. Tuition is $170 for three sessions and includes materials\, plus a closing review with refreshments. Nonresidents fee is 190. \nParticipants will have use of an 8” x 10” gel plate provided by the instructor for large or small work. Provided each week are initial practice materials and high-quality materials\, including copy print paper\, rice paper\, card stock\, plus a few exotic papers\, numerous stencils\, inks\, and large stamps\, plus surprises.
