DESCRIPTION:Fruit Flora Food  \n Bay Area artist Carol Tarzier is offering “Fruit Flora Food” a Still Life painting course.  Class meets on Thursdays November 12th  – December 17th in the Rossmoor Art Association Studio 2.   Students work from still life objects beginning with fruit.   Demos are presented weeks 1 and 3 and begin with fruit and move into colorful desserts/flowers.  Students create multiple smaller finished paintings.    The last class is a final critique. \n “Fruit Flora Food” is about simplifying the value structure and creating shapes of value and color that build the painting.  We begin with color mixing and composition\, and move into light and paint handling/edges.  The class focuses on with masses and values and loosening up paint handling to create an exciting piece. \n Oil or acrylic painters welcome.   Oil painters please use odorless thinner only. \n Carol Tarzier has taught painting for many years at the Academy of Art University.  Her paintings have been represented in national shows and museums\, including the Salon International at the Greenhouse Gallery\, the Haggin Museum\, Oil Painters of America Western Regional Exhibition and at the California Art Club’s Gold Medal Show.  Carol is represented by Studio Gallery in San Francisco and MK Contemporary in Santa Cruz.  \n  \nThe class is limited to 15 students\, and pre-enrollment is required.   For questions email carol@tarzier.com.  View examples of Carol’s work at www.tarzier.com. \n

DESCRIPTION:Landscapes from Photographs      \nBay Area artist Carol Tarzier is offering “Landscape from Photographs.”  Class meets on Fridays November 13th – December 18th\, from 12:30 – 4:30 pm in Studio One.  Tuition for the five sessions is $110. for members\, $130 for non residents and residents who are not members. Please join!  Every other class features a demonstration and group discussion; the last class includes a final critique.\n \n“Landscape from Photographs” is about using photographs to create fresh and lively landscapes with the energy and color of Plein Air work.  The series covers color mixing using a limited palette of three primary colors.   The class begins with materials and equipment that make painting fun\, and with designing the value structure in monochrome.   It moves to atmospheric perspective – creating depth using soft edges\, mixed muted tones\, and soft grays.   Students will use saturation to create space\, with bright colors in the foreground.   \n           \nThe class moves on to colors for specific effects: color changes in the sky as it moves toward the horizon\, color changes on a flat plane to make it recede into the distance\, and which colors create a dynamic foreground.  Time permitting\, the class will cover transparency:  how to make water look transparent\, how to paint waves\, and painting reflections.   \n \nStudents bring their landscape photos to each class\, on a tablet or printed photos.  Oil and acrylic painters of all levels welcome.
