Ever dreamed of capturing the world in vibrant oils or acrylics? Whether you’re just starting out or ready to take your painting to the next level, this mixed-level class welcomes both beginners and intermediate painters to explore these versatile mediums. I believe that painting should bring joy first and foremost.

“Paint what you love,” I’ve said many times as I help each student find direction and develop style. I will guide you through techniques you need, from basic color mixing, atmospheric perspective, and composition to more advanced ones like glazing and impasto. My step-by-step approach using demonstrations ensures that beginners feel confident while intermediate painters can push their boundaries and develop their unique style. Frequently I hear requests for help in painting more loosely, so I present ways to do move in that direction.

The real magic happens when our diverse group of painters comes together. You’ll find yourself part of a warm, supportive community where friendships open up alongside artistic skills. Students have said  “the three hours fly.” Often they share tips, celebrate each other’s progress, and “enjoy Anna’s entertaining stories.” A number of  painters have been coming back for years –not just for the instruction, but for the exceptional camaraderie, and they share that warmly with new class members.

Anna George, Instructor

Anna studied fine art in two east coast colleges and universities and has exhibited since. After founding a gallery in San Francisco, and garnering awards, she opened a big, bright studio on the Berkeley, Oakland border which housed a showroom of her multi-styled work. A decade later she moved a bit east where she has offered classes year-round for over eleven years at two venues. "I love witnessing our kinship as well as the growth and diversity of work emerging in the class," she says. "Each student moves in the direction they choose." In 2013 Anna launched and began hosting the RAA evening Soirées des Artistes which honors one artist in the community each event.
