“Paints ~ Papers ~ Prints – Fun with Collage & Surfaces”

It’s certainly good to invent and play and relax into light adventure as surfaces  transform in ways that are both planned and unexpected. I help you combine, layer, design and build richness. Following simple principles of composition to make each move with confidence, we’ll simply add one step to the next to build. You are bringing with you the finest ingredient–your imagination. In Studio 2 our art-making is genuinely fun; gelli printing may be a delightful series component if the class wishes.

“Paints ~ Papers ~ Prints” allows us to complete several pieces. No experience necessary. Guided projects at the outset involve working on boards, paper, or canvas and selecting from an assortment of ingredients. Members may utilize their own materials, or if preferred, prearrange using materials provided by the instructor.

Collect interesting papers, pages and found materials which resonate, and the odd tool to work them, while I offer you techniques which complement your intention and style. Tools and adhesives for layering are provided. Go simple or build depth and dimension—the choices are endless and results are exciting.

I enjoy sharing what I love. After being a full-time artist for decades which included a successful history of custom work for clients, I am happy to be in my 11th year of teaching here. I often feel proud of my students’ growth. Studio 2 is our haven, a warm place where we uplift each other as we learn. All celebrate in the final class with a group showing of finished work and pieces in progress.

Anna George, Instructor

Anna studied fine art in two east coast colleges and universities and has exhibited since. After founding a gallery in San Francisco, and garnering awards, she opened a big, bright studio on the Berkeley, Oakland border which housed a showroom of her multi-styled work. A decade later she moved a bit east where she has offered classes year-round for over eleven years at two venues. "I love witnessing our kinship as well as the growth and diversity of work emerging in the class," she says. "Each student moves in the direction they choose." In 2013 Anna launched and began hosting the RAA evening Soirées des Artistes which honors one artist in the community each event.
