Watercolor Workshop with Samantha McNally
Monday April 20, 2026 1 to 4 PM
maximum spaces:12
price for members: $50.00
price for guests: $70.00.
Samantha McNally’s workshop will show how to make atmospheric perspective in a big view like this one of Mount Diablo. The distant mountain is lighter in color and bluer (cooler), and the close hills and trees are stronger value and more yellow (warmer). Mingling colors and dropping in one color on top of another, painting wet into wet and wet on dry, these are the techniques we will talk about and use in the class. We will make soft edges and hard edges and many other elements of design when we paint the mountain. We will take a photo that has sort of drab colors and turn it into a bright and cheery colorful painting.

Please bring good quality watercolor paper about 11×14 or similar. Good paper and paint ensures a better result. Samantha uses these Daniel Smith colors for this painting.
Phthalo Blue
Cobalt Blue
Phthalo Green
Quinacridone Burnt Scarlett
Quinacridone Gold
Carmine
Certain combinations of these colors will make the grays and purples and browns and greens that we need for this painting. Samantha will teach you how to mix them and keep the colors fresh and vibrant.
