Figure Lab. Wednesday 1-4 pm October 22nd – December 10. 6 sessions. Class skips 11/5, 11/26 (Thanksgiving week). Cost $90 for Rossmoor residents, $120 for non-members and non-residents, for the six sessions. Carol Tarzier is the Monitor for most sessions.
The Figure Lab is a wonderful art experience where a professional model is employed and posed with lighting. Participants have the opportunity to draw or paint from a life model in a medium of their choice. There is no instruction.
Figure and Portrait painting is one of the oldest disciplines, and is some of the best practice out there – somewhat like Plein Air but from a model indoors. Every art school requires drawing the figure from life in the curriculum. As you work on your piece, on the breaks, walk around and look at different interpretations of the model. The figure lab is a great accompaniment to the Portrait from Photographs class; the classes develop the same skill sets – drawing, mixing skin tones, identifying shadow shapes. All media are welcome – charcoal, acrylic, oil paint, pastels, mixed.
